Poddala Jayantha and The Transparency International Award- By දේශපාලුවා

Poddala Jayantha a journalist for the Associated Newspapers (Lake House) was abducted and brutally assaulted by an unidentified gang in June of 2009. Later he was given asylum in USA and now lives in USA.
Poddala has been awarded the integrity award by Transparency international, and it is befitting.

A similar award was given to Mr. Mano Ganeshan by US ambassador to Sri Lanka. Ganeshan was a front line speaker at the LTTE rallies, a group classified as one of the most dangerous terrorist organizations in the world by FBI along with HAMAS Hezbollah and al Qaeda. What kind of an award will USA send to a speaker in rallies of the latter three groups? Supposedly nothing short of a visit by a predator drone. Such is the hypocrisy of such international awards.

Poddala had an ideology and he used his journalistic privileges to steer governments towards his ideology.

A letter he co-authored titled "Mahinda" published during the 2005 election is a good example, it is everything that Mahinda Rajapaksha is not, it defines Rajapaksha as a liberal progressive and attempts to steer Rajapaksha towards that viewpoint.

When he failed, he used his journalistic privileges to the political disadvantage of Mahinda Rajapaksha administration.

All governments are corrupt, and its the same government officials who continue even when the ruling political party changes.

How many exposes has he done on the previous governments, which aligned with is ideological view point?

Why did his exposes on government corruption rapidly increase with surge of war and when the LTTE seemed to be vulnerable?

Is it heresy to ask those questions?

It is clear that Poddala used his journalism for his ideological interests but not for the benefit of the people.

It becomes glaringly clear by him aligning with Lankanewsweb.com, a political hack job run with complete secrecy of the owners, believed to be assisted by an opposition politician in Sri Lanka. Lankanewsweb is famous for its utterly false, wild accusations of Gotabaya Rajapaksha buying Apollo Hospital and Basil Rajapaksha buying Swarnawahini TV station, and carried out vile attacks with false accusations against journalists like Manoj Abedeera of Divaina news paper and Iqbal Athas of Sunday Times.

What is the integrity of a man , who writes to a political hack job of a web site, run by a group in secrecy, supposedly controlled by an opposition party politician, openly supports the United National Party, publishes utter lies about government officials and carries out vile attacks against fellow journalists?

Poddala was an office barer of the Sri Lanka Working Journalists association, an NGO funded by other NGOs and foreign governments . SLWJA does not want to reveal their donors to the SL public instead want to keep it in secrecy.

SLWJA is in the cabal of Sri Lankan NGOs who try to steer Sri Lanka towards a liberal ideology. A small group of people control all these NGOs, many are officials of many NGOs, and draw salaries from most of them.

NGOs are the most corrupt institutes in Sri Lanka, C.A. Chandraprema of the Island exposed how money is being used for personal benefit of NGO officials in transparency international Sri Lanka, the watch dog agency that is supposed to watch over corruption in Sri Lanka. The Editor of Ravaya Victor Ivan exposed how this tightly bound group of NGO officials misuse their funds and prevelages as NGO officials to achive their personal goals.

The head of Transparency International Sri Lanka J.C. Weliamuna is not a neutral man, he is the attorney for the Editor of Lanka Irida Chandana Sirimalwatta, the unofficial newspaper of Marxist political party JVP.

And what is the response by the amnesty international head office on those allegations? They promote Mr. Weliamuna. Reminiscent of Mr. J.R Jayawardana promoting IP Udugampola after the Gatambe Temple Fiasco.

Such is the hypocrisy in NGOs and INGOs

It is natural for Poddala's friends in Transparency International Sri Lanka to nominate him to this award, so he can write a favorable review on them, or help them with their "liberal cause", or with their personal ambitions.

Poddala's integrity is not towards truth, but towards his ideology, he has proven that however vile the path that he would have to take to achieve his ideological ambitions he will take it.

And the NGOs and INGOs operating in Sri Lanka and their funding governments have repeatedly shown that however naked and ugly the path they would have to take to steer Sri Lanka to a liberal , pro separatist government, they would take it.

The Island newspaper reported that US government attempted to evacuate Prabakaran during the final phases of the war, apparently they couldn't get to him, but they got to Poddala.

Hypocrisy exists everywhere. Asking hypocrisy from another is like asking anyone without sin to throw the rock.

Internationally, Nobel peace price is political. The doctorates given to some of our leaders are also political. Mano and this guy were given awards to send a message against SLG since their none compliance with the western politics.

I am not saying you don't have any valid points.

You are a government supporter, you never write against government mismanagement and inefficiencies.

Don't you think that is hypocritical as well?
Where does your integrity falls in that regard?

Most NGOs have no integrity including this organization called CPA.

I find it hard to believe this:

"The Island newspaper reported that US government attempted to evacuate Prabakaran during the final phases of the war, they didn't get to him, but they got to Poddala.
"

I think USA is happy Prabha is gone. They are responding to the political lobbying power of Tamil diaspora now. Why Sinhalese can't counter that?

Do you think Barak Obama wanted to save Prabha? Give me a break.

Perhaps. Doesn't the government do it too? Why we legalized gambling?

Why we are openly supporting corrupt monks in Buddhist temples?

Why we are supporting thugs and thieves in the parliament?

Don't you think putting SF in jail and keeping master terrorists like Karuna/ Pillian is some kind of ideology, liberal or not?

We are opening up our back and front yards to countless western tourists, is that liberal or not?

My point is, we see the hair on someone's head, not the pile of s%$# on our forehead.

" Blocking access to porn is difficult. We don't have the means to build a great firewall at the moment. "

Have you heard this country called China?
Porn should be banned from public places. Participation in porn manufacturing process should also be banned. If we put young lovers in jail for holding their hand, why can't we do it?

"Banning access of porn to adults (21+) is not necessary, as studies show that wathcing porn usually decreases violent sex crimes instead of increasing it."

Would you mind sharing results of that research? Common sense tells me otherwise. Many SL young women now complain that they have to perform these disguising sex act they see on porn. The end result is violence if they don't participate.

" All the pornographic material of course should be foreign and deviant variants should be blocked by a firewall."

You can never block porn. You can however show they are morally not acceptable.

Forming a transitional government

Some hitherto unknown details about Fonseka's presidential election campaign unfolded this week as some UNP seniors, discussing Friday's swearing-in ceremonies, reminisced about events behind the scenes. Confident that Fonseka would be elected President, both the UNP and the JVP were locked in consultations to form a transitional government. A key player who did not wish to be identified, related the details.

"We were sure Fonseka would win. One of us spoke with him about the urgent arrangements required for the transition. However, he was reluctant to discuss specific issues. He said wait until the election is over. He said decisions could be taken only thereafter. However, the UNP leadership felt that while he (Fonseka) continued campaigning, a mechanism should be evolved by the UNP together with the JVP. There was concurrence from the JVP too.

Preparations being made at the old Parliament building for the swearing-in ceremony of President Rajapaksa. Pic by Sanka Vidanagama
"The first task was to find a Secretary to the President-elect. A former senior public service official, who had served in several positions including the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Public Administration, was approached. He was told of the urgent need to assume office as Secretary to the President. He was persuaded to agree. The former bureaucrat sought an assurance that his name would not be divulged until it became necessary. Both the UNP and the JVP reached accord on this appointment though there was no endorsement from Fonseka.

"The question of the Cabinet of Ministers followed. The UNP dusted off an old report lying in its shelves. It had been formulated then by a German NGO (Non Governmental Organisation) recommending the outlines of a Cabinet of 20 ministers. A professor who headed the controversial outfit in Colombo had even spelt out the parameters of each Ministry and how they should be set up. Spending considerable amounts of money, the Professor in question had developed a strong clout with those in the UNF government then. "

Note: The same NGO also funded various overseas trips for members of the then UNF Government. One of its highly questionable acts was the funding of a seminar at a five star hotel in Colombo where reforms in the defence establishment were also discussed. Such reforms contained in a report formulated by a committee that included senior military officers remained confidential until the conduct of that seminar. Even senior officials of the then Ministry of Defence took part in these discussions. All expenses related to the exercise were paid for by this German NGO. The report to the UNP on how the Cabinet should be formulated revealed that the NGO in question had made inroads into some of the vital organs of the state during that period. The fault lay not on the NGO alone but on the officialdom that allowed it a free run. Top rungers in the then government had become tools in their hands.

Anonymous said...

The key player added, "The JVP was unaware of the NGO report. The UNP (Acting on the recommendations contained in it) proposed that the cabinet should not be more than twenty members. The JVP wanted three ministries including agriculture and the media. The UNP was opposed to the subject of media being given to the JVP. The dialogue continued and no finality was reached. On one occasion, a suggestion to include the subject of media under the Cultural Affairs Ministry to be assigned to the JVP was also discussed."

The self-confession in retrospect by this key player this week was most interesting. He said, "By hindsight, most of us, at least in the UNP, know our plans would never have worked. In all of UNP's dialogue with Fonseka during the presidential election campaign, he evaded discussing impending issues. This happened on many occasions. He did not want to even discuss the appointment of a Secretary to the President if he were to win. We became aware that an inner circle of retired military people were also talking to him and making their own plans for a transitional government formation. We now feel he would not have changed. It would have been the UNP and the JVP that would have had to face the changes and even the fallout. I am relieved it did not happen. That is now history."

Those revelations by an insider, no doubt, provide a frightening insight into how things would have played out if Fonseka were to have been elected President. Little wonder, one opposition top runger was forced to tell Rajapaksa during a one-on-one after the presidential election "Api dennama dinun" (we have both won). The fact that this top runger found it increasingly difficult to meet Fonseka during the days close to the presidential election is no secret.

If the campaign in January to make Fonseka the president saw greater unity between the UNP and the JVP, seeking his release from jail has forced the two parties to go their own ways. Sections of the UNP want to express their solidarity to Fonseka by being present in the Court of Appeal tomorrow. A three-member bench is to rule on the question of an interim order seeking to restore Fonseka's seat in Parliament. This is until his writ application contesting the verdict of the General Court Martial is heard by court. Meanwhile the JVP is stepping up its efforts to ensure a larger turnout for its protest rally outside the Fort Railway Station on Thursday. Despite these efforts, the Fonseka issue is receding and running out of steam.

According to SundayTimes the Army, Navy and Air Force HQs will be moved to a new complex at Pellawatte (SL's pentagon type structure).

I personally believe we should move Army HQ to the Wanni, that is basically RECOL. Naturally eelamtards, colombians, NGOs and other traitors will attack, but they will attack on grounds of Army HQ, not RECOL. Thus RECOL can go ahead without much of an issue made out of it.

A gang of ten men arriving on five motor cycles to the residence of former Tamil parliamentarian, Pathmini Sithamparanathan Sunday around 6:30 p.m, assaulted the visiting Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) party members, causing serious injuries to the group members including parliamentarian Sunil Handunneththi, who were engaged in talks with Ms. Pathmini Sithamparanathan. The injured were rushed to Jaffna Teaching Hospital.

The extremist anti-Tamil JVP, which is now locked in waging a campaign against Rajapaksa family-rule in South, is attempting to woo Tamil support in Jaffna by highlighting the plight of the disappeared Tamils arrested by Rajapaksa's military.

this is true.

govt must seriously think of controlling the COL and there seems to be NO PLAN whatsoever.

it can bring down the govt and throw everything into chaos sooner than we think.

1. govt spend MUST be controlled. the public sector has to reduce

2. colonization - more land --> more produce ---> automatic control of price ---> increased affordability for the ppl

3. US$ 1,700,000,000 defence spend MUST bring in more than that. colonization is the only way to do this in addition to what happens already.

so we are coming to a situation where agricultural land is not expanding, farmers/fishermen (food producers) are not seeing expansion (DESPITE HUGE PRICE INCREASES!!!), affordability of food stuff is going up and up with no benefit to the producers/consumers. the sure end of this is chaos. colonization of VAST land in the north is the only way out.

Israel: Norway inciting against us

Foreign Ministry says Norwegian authorities funding anti-Israel film, exhibition, and play. Norway: We support freedom of expression

Itamar Eichner Published: 11.15.10, 09:15 / Israel News

Serious diplomatic conflict: Israel is accusing the Norwegian government of funding and encouraging blatant anti-Israel incitement.

According to reports received by the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem, the Trondheim Municipality is funding a trip to New York for students taking part in the "Gaza Monologues" play, which "deals with the suffering of children in Gaza as a result of the Israeli occupation."

The play, written by a Palestinian from Gaza, will be presented at the United Nations headquarters. It joins an exhibition by a Norwegian artists displayed in Damascus, Beirut, and Amman, with the help of Norway's embassies in Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan.

The exhibition shows killed Palestinian babies next to Israel Defense Forces helmets, which are reminiscent of Nazi soldiers' helmets, and an Israeli flag drenched in blood.

The Norwegians are also helping the distribution of a documentary film called "Tears of Gaza" to festivals across the world. According to the Foreign Ministry, the film deals with the suffering of Gaza's children as well, without mentioning Hamas, the rockets fired at Israel, and Israel's right to defend itself.

The film shows Gazans chanting, "Itbah al-Yahud," but the Norwegian translation says "slaughter the Israelis" instead of "slaughter the Jews".

Moshe Dyan said...

In addition, a book written by two Norwegian doctors who were the only foreigners in Gaza to give interviews during Operation Cast Lead was published recently. The book, which accuses IDF soldiers of deliberately killing women and children, is a bestseller in Norway and has been warmly recommended by none other than Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

The Israeli Embassy in Norway strongly protested the authorities' involvement in Israel's demonization. "The open and official Norwegian policy talks about understanding and reconciliation," a senior Israeli official said Sunday evening, "but ever since the war in Gaza, Norway has become a superpower in terms of exporting multimedia aimed at de-legitimizing Israel, while using the Norwegian taxpayer funds for creating and transporting this multimedia."

Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Ayalon said in a meeting with Norwegian parliament members that "such activity pushes away the chance for reconciliation and encourages a radicalization in the Palestinian stand which prevents them from compromising."

The Norwegians responded to the Israeli criticism by saying that the government supports the freedom of expressions and will not intervene in artistic content.

Sam, old boy, you are quite correct in saying these traitors will do more damage than left over terrorists. It will do us good to remember this quote from great Roman statesman philosopher Marcus Tullius Cicero in one of his famous speeches on the floor of Roman Senate.

A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.

Cheers!

Interesting "analysis" of the White flag story at LNP.
http://www.lankanewspapers.com/news/2010/11/62085_space.html

Everything is being set up to discredit both Gonseka and Sundayleader of Mutts.
This is like two sacks of faeces being incinerated together.
Of course the West/Western media is not interesting in the dealings. They got what they wanted from scumseka and now have all but abandoned him except when they need something to attack SL and bring up Gonz to talk about "democracy" in SL. The SUPER FOOL thought his white masters would come in and either install him as President or let him enjoy his green card. He got NEITHER. (Don't forget the day after the election on the 27th he called for an Iraq style invasion from his white masters to make him President: "tell the world, we need foreign intervention like done to other countries").

Nothing encapsulates his desperation to be crowned President other than his own retarded election petition where he calls for the Supreme Court to declare him president.

patriots,

something i heard about gonzeka from a *** guy.

this is AGAINST what we perceive of gonzeka but i think it has some truth in it. brings us back to the curse of the nation - mongal, ranil, etc.

according to him, gonzeka instructed *** (from where ever he was) to iwara karapang koti. he knew very well about vezapillai but didn't tell the brothers fearing they might want to save him (not for the love for this SOB but to screww him maximum and to use him to screww TNA toilets). the brothers demanded from him about vezapillai to which he answered that he had no idea!!! they waited and waited to tell the nation. it was becoming a joke as ppl started celebrating already. then govt decided to declare victory without vezapillai. immediately thereafter gonzeka declared that vezapillai was found!! he knew it for 2 days. govt was FURIOUS! thereafter he tried hard to win back the trust of the govt but failed.

gonzeka's good moves behind the scene will never be properly appreciated, he said. gonzeka looked after JBPs like l-ass-antha when govt thought a court order would tame these scum. gonseka went the extra mile to strengthen the govt by privately talking to JVP and pillayan to support the govt. no one asked him to do so. he WAS a self motivated patriot - a VERY rare breed.

when GR demanded a daily harvest of 15, gonzeka told his brigadiers to make it 25 and impress GR.

his very close ally GA chandrasiri looked after all LTTE infiltrators in jaffna for over 3 crucial years. govt forced him to retirement (with good intentions though). his services were not properly appreciated.

gonzeka DID earn money by supplying non-combat equipment to SLDFs, he says. gonzeka's certain moves to earn big was stopped. overall gonzeka BEFORE MADNESS HIT HIM was a good guy.

but he busted all the good work with his BS.

he must not be forgiven.

BUT we BADLY need another gonzeka. due to gonzeka's stupid behaviour, govt does not allow the rise of a self-motivated leader in the forces. this is sad.

The International Dimensions of the conflict in Sri Lanka

Guest Column by Ana Pararajasingham

(The views expressed by the author are his own)

In May 2009, the three decade long armed rebellion in Sri Lanka ended with the defeat of the Tamil Tiger forces. Beijing provided Colombo not only with military supplies but also diplomatic cover to prosecute the war. China, however, was not the only international actor whose support helped Colombo to vanquish the Tamil Tigers. It was also due to India’s logistical support to cut off Tigers’ weapons supply. Then there was Pakistan, Sri Lanka’s ally of several decades. Iran and Russia had entered the fray invited by Colombo at the behest of China to dilute Indian influence. India’s attempt to balance China was driven by the logic that it could not sit back and surrender Sri Lanka into China’s embrace. New Delhi wanted to ensure that Colombo stayed within its orbit.

In the early 1980’s when Sri Lanka under a pro-western Government began to look to the West in its war against the Tamil rebels, India acted quickly by arming and training the Tamils to exert pressure on Colombo. Consequently, New Delhi was able to persuade Colombo to sign the Indo-Sri Lanka Accord recognizing India’s pre-eminence as the regional power. As a result Colombo remained within India’s orbit despite the Northeast of the island coming under the control of the fiercely independent and single-minded Tamil Tigers.

This was largely true until the early years of the 21st century. But, by then the cold war was history and the US-led West had emerged more powerful than ever before. At the same time, the Indian Ocean had become strategically important due to the phenomenal growth of China and India. In this scenario, Sri Lanka due to its location in the Indian Ocean is a strategically significant state.

Beginning in 2002, the United States had enhanced its involvement in Sri Lanka by backing Norway which had initiated a process to broker peace between the Tamil Tigers and the Sri Lankan Government. The reasons for the ‘enhanced’ involvement by the US was attributed by US Ambassador Lunstead to the post-Sept. 11, 2001 atmosphere to confront terrorism, the presence of a pro-West Government in Colombo and the personal interest of then-Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage. Lunstead identified the first two as enabling factors and the third—the personal involvement of Deputy Secretary Armitage as the one that drove U.S. involvement. Armitage’s interest was summed up as one prompted by the desire to help a country torn by conflict, terrorism and human rights abuses. Lunstead was emphatic that this occurred despite the absence of significant U.S. strategic interests in Sri Lanka “contrary to the musings of various South Asian theorists”[1]

But such musings were not confined to South Asian theorists alone, it included others closely involved with the Cease Fire Agreement. Trond Furuhovde, a Norwegian Monitor appointed to oversee the Cease-Fire wrote in the Norwegian Daily, Adressa on 30 January 2006 that the role of the Americans was dictated by their new strategy based on their changed interests in Asia. China had increased its presence in these same oceans, as has India. The background for them all is the wish for control of the sea routes from the west, through the Malacca Strait into the South China Sea. In this picture Sri Lanka with its geographic location takes a central place. The east coast of the island with the harbour city of Trincomalee and the Batticaloa lagoon offers extremely important sea-strategic possibilities.

Moshe Dyan said...

...contd.

But with the election of the stridently anti-Western Mahinda Rajapaksa as President in 2005, the US and the Norwegians were sidelined. China was more than ready to help realizing the tremendous strategic advantage that laid in store should it manage to secure a role for itself as Sri Lanka’s main backer. It was successful in this bid. In return, China was permitted to build a port in Sri Lanka’s southern coast in Hambantota directly astride the main east-west shipping route across the Indian Ocean. In the process Hambantota became another pearl in China’s “String of Pearls” strategy, which has to date involved building ports through the littorals of the Straits of Malacca, Chittagong in Bangladesh; Laem Chabang in Myanmar; Sihanoukville in Thailand and Gwadar in Pakistan. As part of the Hambantota project several thousand Chinese laborers are now in Sri Lanka and Chinese have a visible presence in the island.

In 2009, China provided USD $1.2 billion to Sri Lanka investing in several projects. It is also rebuilding the main roads in the war-shattered Northeast. In 2010, following a three-day visit led by Chinese Vice-Premier Zhang Dejiang to Colombo, as many as six agreements were signed. The agreements cover highways development, enhanced cooperation in information technology and communication, development of maritime ports and the second phase of the Hambontota Port Development Project.[2]

The US attempt to bring about a regime change by backing General Sarath Fonseka, the former army commander and US Green Card holder at the Presidential elections in January 2010 failed when Rajapakse was re-elected President by an overwhelming majority. The US strategy was doomed because of the strong anti-Western sentiments that had come to prevail during the war. These were fueled by criticism of the Sri Lankan Government’s conduct during the final phases of the war by several western governments, media and other agencies. In December 2008, the New York-based Genocide Prevention Project cited Sri Lanka as one of the eight "red alert" countries where genocide and other mass atrocities were underway or risk breaking out. In February 2009, the Boston Globe compared the ongoing massacre in Sri Lanka to the Bosnian Srebrenica genocide and pointed out that Sri Lanka's armed forces had in the previous month employed indiscriminate bombing and shelling to herd 350,000 Tamil civilians into a government-prescribed "safety zone," where, more than 1,000 were slaughtered and more than 2,500 injured. Several western governments called for investigations into war crimes committed by the Sri Lankan government. The Sri Lankan ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva rejected these allegations as `outrageous` and likened it to asking the triumphant Allies of World War II to be tried for war crimes in the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Sri Lanka`s minister of disaster management and human rights, Mahinda Samarasinghe declared that his government was `sick and tired` of what he called foreign meddling.[3]

It was in this atmosphere that Fonseka announced his candidature for Presidency immediately upon his return from a visit to the US after meeting with officials of US Department of State and Department of Homeland Security. Fonseka was thus seen as a candidate of the West notwithstanding his credentials as a ‘war hero’ and an ardent ultra-nationalist.[4]

Whilst China’s overwhelming presence in Sri Lanka is causing some angst amongst Indian political analysts, New Delhi appears to believe that its geographical proximity is sufficient to retain leverage with Sri Lanka. Underpinning this line of thinking is either a confident assumption that it can counter Chinese influence or the notion that it can balance China by assisting in development projects as it assisted during the war.

Moshe Dyan said...

....contd.

In a an attempt to retrieve some grounds lost to the Chinese, India has offered to install a 500MW thermal power plant at Trincomalee; construct a rail link between Talaimannar and Madhu; reconstruct the Palaly Airport and re-develop the harbour at Kankesanthurai.[5] Significantly all these projects are in the Northeast of the island- a region overwhelmingly Tamil and referred to as “areas of historical habitation of Sri Lankan Tamil speaking peoples” in the now defunct Indo-Sri Lanka Accord of 1987. Behind India’s belated attempt is perhaps the motive to build a strategic presence in a region populated by a people who have been regarded by many an Indian analyst as ‘India’s natural allies’ and thus ‘balance’ China’s influence. This is a weak strategy in the absence of a countervailing force that can contain Colombo. .

In any case New Delhi attempts to gain a foothold in the pre-dominantly Tamil Northeast, are undermined by rapid changes to the demography of this region modeled on Chinese actions in Tibet. These attempts can result in a Northeast that is no more Tamil dominated and thus remove the rationale for the strategic space that New Delhi seeks to create. Ramu Manivannan, Associate Professor, with the Department of Politics & Public Administration at the University of Madras in Tamil Nadu has written of historical shifts taking place with profound implications for the future.[6]

Consequently, it is becoming increasingly clear that, the state of Sri Lanka is on its way to be becoming a powerful base from which China contains India on its southern flank, while escalating its incursions into Arunachal Pradesh (‘Southern Tibet” in its parlance) from the North. Nor can one discount China’s recent deployment of troops into Pakistan -controlled Kashmir which it had provocatively referred to as Northern Pakistan.[7]

The West having been forced to forfeit the strategically significant state of Sri Lanka has done little to check Chinese influence in the Indian Ocean. Meanwhile, Beijing has demonstrated its aggressive trait by deciding to enforce its claim to almost the entire South China Sea as its "historical waters," identifying this as a "core interest" on a par with Taiwan and Tibet.[8] To-date the Obama administration’s response to this development has been muted. Earlier, notwithstanding an assessment by Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair of China as one of the foremost threats to the United States, the administration decided to downgrade China from "Priority 1" status, alongside Iran and North Korea, to "Priority 2”.[9] Whilst this has been interpreted as part of the Obama administration's larger effort to develop a more cooperative relationship with Beijing[10] , its critics have tended to describe Obama administration’s approach as ‘appeasement’[11]

While New Delhi seeks to ‘balance’ and Washington to ‘appease’, China can only become even more aggressive. in establishing itself as the Asian power. This is in direct contrast to India’s position which has been to accept Chinese presence in South Asia as inevitable and accommodate itself to this reality.[12]

It was on Sri Lanka’s beach front battlefields that China’s “peaceful rise” was completed”.[13] Indeed it was in Sri Lanka that China crossed the Rubicon by abandoning its policy of peaceful rise to one of calculated aggression by demonstrating its strategic effectiveness in a region traditionally outside its orbit[14]. More to the point what does this mean in the context of the ‘great game’ of this century being played out on the waters of the Indian Ocean.

it is obvious what SL should do ----> COLONIZATION.

otherwise india will ONCE AGAIN leverage tamil resisitence against SL to disrupt china (and SL).

Moshe I will never forgive Scumseka for what he has done. Recent events have made he question the validity and the truth behind some of his “heroics” and “abilities”, which we all know are patently false (you yourself said this! E.g. Mumahalia. Gonz was good at executed the plans of others, but failed miserably himself because he is an incompetent buffoon of low intelligence and class –just compare the way Gonz speaks and behaves to Shavendra or Jagath Dias, you can see the difference in intelligence and ability).

Big shot “army commander” and “sole war hero” who “won the war himself” spat on the Army knowing fully well the repercussions as well as the international climate around Sri Lanka. The “white flags” thing (as well as the fact he spoke to Sundayretard and joined up with the enemies of the nation –who if successful in their activities against the nation would mean Gonseka would have nothing to brag about) just showed what kind of man he is and the fact he cares ZERO for the country or Army but only himself and furthering his ego, wealth and ambitions.

Gonseka ditched, betrayed and spat on Sri Lanka and everything he gained out of our country for a luxury life in the US.

That may be the case with perverts like you.. Most normal people have a good grasp of fantasy and reality..

"Porn should be banned from public places. Participation in porn manufacturing process should also be banned. If we put young lovers in jail for holding their hand, why can't we do "

Of course. What I meant was it is virtually impossible to block foreign porn. We do not have the infrastructure to maintain a great firewall like China..

Give Mannar and Trincomalee to the North Central Province.. Recol or no recol this is a good idea..

1. Polonnaruwa gets its harbour. Ranil is happy..

2. The North is completly cut off from East.

3. The Trinco port and the Mannar oilfields are under a more stable province..

4. With Mannar under NCP government can monitor illegal immigration across the Palk strait..

5. Land and Coast is more equitably distributed between provinces..

What a stupid analysis showing a correlation between two mutually exclusive events? Good for idiots who worship SL politicians. Your reasoning shows simply how incomplete and watered down the SL education system is.

By the way, rape is also directly connected to the polar ice cap. Rape is down as the snow is melting.

Your reasoning are good for village idiots or chena boys.

I don't think we have any comprehensive data to make a case. We hear often how women are abducted to make porn. The 'porn stars' in SL porn perhaps have been mislead by their boyfriends.

I'd say rape and porn are not connected. Alcohol and rape may be connected. Rape is also a sign of a society with poor morals and Sri Lanka is a good candidate for that since Buddhism has no impact towards majority Sri Lanka.

disclaimer: Pure Buddhism exists in Sri Lanka, however its impact is very limited. The popular or cultural Buddhism is the hijacked version of what Gauthama Buddha preached.

Is there a connection between rape and brothels? I know SL has number of brothels and we import whores from Eastern Europe and far east. Those who are with money and power can go to Singapore or Thailand using government money to get any action they desired and why waste time raping around when you have the access to hookers?

I personally like the noise coming out of recent attempt to publish names and pictures of porn stars. True, there can be some innocent names attached to them and they can suit the government if they are not guilty.

The only way to deter is to make it socially unacceptable. Make it ban to watch them in public using PDAs or even in Internet cafes. Let them watch whatever people want at the comfort of their homes. Make it illegal for minors to have the access to porn.

A well disciplined society can do anything and we are far from one.

‘Quiet diplomacy’ does not work with Sri Lanka – pissa-inayagam
[TamilNet, Thursday, 18 November 2010, 03:01 GMT]
Economic aid should be linked to press freedom in Sri Lanka, veteran Tamil journalist J. S. Tissainayagam, who was released from government custody by international pressure earlier this year, said Wednesday. In his first interview since his release, Mr. Tissainayagam rejected arguments that ‘quiet diplomacy’ would achieve better conduct from President Mahinda Rajapakse regime, and said “the more pressure that is put publicly, the more the government is willing to act”. He linked his own release directly to the government’s then efforts to retain the EU’s GSP+ trade concessions.

we knew this joker will do this once released. we should never have released him.

this is a good lesson for the govt not to BYPASS the law to appease TEs and the IC. it comes to bite us back.

Peer reviewed documents are generally accepted as evidence in global academic culture..
Instead of giving a link to research arguing in the counter, you launced a diatribe against SL's education system (Argumentum ad hominem, not really acceptable in discipline societies).. That is the culture of people who purchase their qualifications from third rate degree shops (The money wasted educating you would have better been spent rearing a herd of cattle)

"So you admit SL Buddhists are cash deficient. "

"How do you value Gambling from your Buddhist nourished culture? Is is a good or bad thing for a society?"

SL Buddhists are certainly cash defecient to take part in high stakes gambling (this is not a game of Omi we are talking about)..

The Parabava sutta preaches against gambling. But if it's not SL citizens who are gambling I don't give a hoot. You can call it hypocrisy, I call it innovative capitalism.. Prostitution on the other hand is direct physical exploitation of another human being, and therefore should not be allowed in any form.

"Make it illegal for minors to have the access to porn."

It is already illegal. But without blabbering about discipline here talk about solution (i.e. how the law can be enforced). Parental filters at home (which was the central thesis of my first post on the subject which you trivialised in your usual despicalbe way) is the way forward..

Rape and Porn are two mutually exclusive things and fact that they have a statistical relationship is NOTHING.

When I challenged that point, you spent night after night and came up with some illiterate paper which you call research or proof.

Have you ever thought or understood their connection before flashing the numbers?

Women in USA have been educated by the internet on how to protect themselves from rape. At the same time, rapist have been well prosecuted and young people have been educated about sexual violence. These things are happening while porn is on the rise. Any idiot can show statistics and claim that porn has caused rape to go down by not considering anything at all.

thanks to these stupid acts by norwegians and others in the west, china is pushed towards russia, strategically which will prove a VERY DANGEROUS mistake.

"UK billboard announces Tamil Eelam National Remembrance Day

[TamilNet, Friday, 19 November 2010, 04:26 GMT]
As part of the global Tamil Eelam community’s events to mark National Remembrance Day on November 27, expatriate Tamils in London have sponsored a public billboard. The Tamil Youth Organisation (TYO), an activist group comprising Tamil students and young professionals, coordinated the effort. “We wanted to express the significance of this day for Eelam Tamils, when all of us across the globe are united in remembering the sacrifices made so that the Tamil people could one day live in peace and dignity in their own homeland,” Nisha Mariyathas, TYO spokesperson told TamilNet."

they fought for a country, ended up only with a BILLBOARD!!!!

Well, remember the Tamil guy who tied the cow to the coconut tree and wrote about the tree in his Sinhalese proficiency exam?

Everything and anything can be connected to defense no?

bj,

it is very much defence related!!!

1. by awarding the NPP to a national security threat of china, they have posed a security threat to china, russia, etc.

2. it also shows the new alliances forming in global defence

3. these developments have a HUGE LONG TERM impact on SL.

I made the same observation. The intensity of anti-SL activities are very high in last two weeks. Is this the menstrual period of anti-SL doofuses or is this an indirect admission that Sri Lankans do not give a damn about their blather.

Maggot of Sri Lannka - Nilantha Illangamuwa

I copy what he has stated at Lanka News Web below reconfirming his intention to let his white masters "colonize Sri Lanka again at least for another 200 years." It is unlikely that this maggot is unaware of how European colonial powers robbed and destroyed our heritage. Despite 450 years of Portuguese, Dutch, and British atrocities against Sri Lankans, Nilantha Illangamuwa still wants the British "colonizing" Sri Lanka for 200 years. Perhaps, this is the lowest form of maggots is Sri Lanka who openly wants white masters to "colonize" Sri Lanka.

Further stressing the point of British rule again in Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka Guardian Editor said: ‘Well! I raised the point that the British must colonize Sri Lanka again at least for another 200 years. But this does not mean that I am an agent of the West. But I strongly believe that we need the situation in Sri Lanka to change where we have the basics of responsible governance, accountability and trustworthy legal system. What we have is law of the jungle and the decree of the irresponsible mavericks like Wimal’.

No it is not, that is the essence of the story your brain cannot comprehend and still you keep talking back about a Buddhist priest elsewhere.

Sam, I am forced to respond to this even though it is outside defense matter and you are jumping between a discussion between myself and Moshe.

Perhaps it is, perhaps it is not. Remember how ostrich stuck the head in the desert and thinks it is hiding?

Sometimes, an independent third party is needed to tell what is true. Remember, your mom will never tell you are an idiot, your neighbor will.

[No it is not, that is the essence of the story your brain cannot comprehend and still you keep talking back about a Buddhist priest elsewhere. )

Now, let's forget me, talk about defense, I am done responding to this.

MR's speech

"Nov 19, Colombo: Sri Lanka has the inherited wisdom to tolerate all opinions and take mature decisions and the country has a tradition of understanding its problems and conflicts and finding solutions for them, the President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa said today. "

I doubt about this statement. He should have said, we want to develop the wisdom ....

Based on things that has happened, it doesn't look like we are on a path based on wisdom. It is rather a path based on arrogance and ignorance, which is far from wisdom.

I would like someone to tell me what we did and how with the wisdom.

ps: Winning a war is not something we do with wisdom, it is rather using an arrogance and there are lot of people around the world unhappy the way we did it.

If we had wisdom, we wouldn't have hurt journalists.

From where did you learn this line. I guess it is from Lala Land? If you want to learn the ABCs of wisdom in warfare, please read "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu. This affirms that you are a true doofus.

Since you make statements, please tell us who these "lots of people" are. Please clarify your claim with a list of names if possible.

If we had wisdom, we wouldn't have hurt journalists.

Who are the journalists here? Are we talking about the garbage digger-cum-religious-fundamentalists like Lasantha Wickramathunge? Are we talking about pathological liars like Eknaligoda? Are we talking about the despicable paid writers at Sunday Leader who took money from UNP to cough yet put a face of bogus journalistic integrity? Are we talking about the scum of Sri Lanka who plots every day to destroy my motherland? Please elaborate.

"(November 19, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth has sent a message to Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapakse on the occasion of his inauguration.

The text of the message reads:

“I send my congratulations on your re-election as President of Sri Lanka. I wish you and the people of Sri Lanka peace and prosperity in the years to come. Elizabeth R.”"

(BTW i like how SLG ITSELF published this. IMO, we all must ALLOW stubborn facts to screw our SECRED opinions MERCILESSLY while we watch!!! by a process of evolution, the fittest opinions which are closest to facts will survive while others vanish. we should also CREATE facts than defend our opinions against them. e.g. war victory, recol)

The racist hypocrisy of these people is well truly fascinating.

They carry out violence and thrive on poverty and misery carry out and illegal conversations, fund proxy wars and try to increase poverty and instability to facilitate to spread more misery to make way for more conversation then complain they are the victim when caught, exposed and face consequences? Much like their Tamil allies.

As for attacks on Muslims, they were carried out by the Wests Tamil christian pets.

Access was denied to Madu by these same Christian pets who the US in particular tried to save through such barbarism as engineering a humanitarian catastrophe to justify intervention to carry out the saving mission.

Oh and what about the crusade against Muslim in the ME coupled to a world campaign of demonisation.

Not to mention how medical and food supplies were denied to people at the war front if they were not Christian/did not convert. Plus the mass scale conversations carried out in IDP centres.

On top of the conversations and violence against Buddhists in the South.

Then there is also the despicable activities of the Church and church groups funded by the US after the Tsunami.

They exploit, war, poverty and natural disasters to convert poor people. Comically they link their barbaric activities to “freedoms” and “human rights”, as in their freedom and “right” to convert people and brutalise non-christian non-white populations for the very crime of being non-white and non-christian.
