A Poem of I, My and Me Repeating 102 Times by Sarath Fonseka

Exactly one year after that infamous interview where Fonseka alleged that “Gota ordered them to be shot” published in the Sunday Leader, (http://www.thesundayleader.lk/2009/12/13/%E2%80%9Cgota-ordered-them-to-be-shot%E2%80%9D-%E2%80%93-general-sarath-fonseka/), he has come up with another tall tale of lies and self pity.    http://transcurrents.com/tc/2010/12/sri_lankan_president_is_behavi.html

This masterpiece of self elevation consisting of 102 times the words “I”, “my” and “me”, contains hilarious contradictions. Very unlikely conduct of a leader of the people. Instead of identifying real enemies, his limitless anger is aimed at the President and the Defence Secretary. Though no right thinking person takes what he talks seriously, looking into what he has to say further reveals him.

The following statements from the appeal indicate how misled he is and how far he would go to make a mockery of himself.

  1. “The Rajapaksa regime probably feels victorious after illegally removing my General rank, gallantry medals and retirement benefits. This is to be expected, especially from an ungrateful man suffering from an inferiority complex.”

Inferiority complex! Nice phrase not to describe the President but the person who is making it. Unable to be satisfied with the position he held following the war, he thought he could do better than the political leader who led the nation to victory. Unfortunately for Fonseka, people thought otherwise. If he needs proof, he only needs to read the next sentence made by him.

  1. “He got junior officers previously cashiered from the army, to sit in a court martial jury. This contravenes all norms, ethics and traditions of any military. A shameful act that has insulted both the military and the country it serves.”

Can distinguished persons from the Sri Lanka Army be cashiered as such? May be some who got rich with hundreds of thousands of US Dollars in their safes, but not the others. Is it not an insult to the very army he served?

  1. “Having said that, I must point out that I never served the country expecting promotions or medals.”

Although Fonseka was a brilliant infantryman, the above statement is factually incorrect. Despite decades of service, Sarath Fonseka failed to win the Vishishta Seva Vibhushanaya (VSV) medal even after he reached 55. When he became the army commander, he proposed his name (and only his name) for the VSV and got it!

However, for contradictions, look no further than his very own statement!

  1. “He cannot take away my rank and medals, as he cannot give back what I have given for the nation.”

There you go.

  1.  “If he wanted to erase what I did, then he has to give life to Prabhakaran too. Our ungrateful leader will never do any good for the country.”

Now this is very interesting. If so, why did Fonseka give this credit to the Defence Secretary one year ago? If the credit for taking the life of Prabhakaran (who surrendered according to some reports) belongs to Fonseka, why didn’t he claim so when he said, “Gota ordered them to be shot”?

  1. “This government does not consider the youth of Sri Lanka as future rulers. Only Namal Rajapaksa is deemed the single worthwhile youth in this country.”

President’s love and fondness of the youth and children is well known and documented. On the other hand none other than his own party (former) MP for Trincomalee Jayantha Wijesekara stated that he wouldn’t support Fonseka at the election because “90% of the JVP youth of the district were killed in 1987-89 era as Sarath Fonseka was the commander of the Army Sinha regiment camp in Trincomalee”.

  1. “The Secretary of Defense wanted to get one of his supporters to build a house for me while I was Commander, but I refused, saying accepting such gifts was not my way of life and was against my conscience and principles. Then they tried to cajole my wife into accepting the house, that didn't work either. This would no doubt give you an idea of why the case cooked up against my son-in-law, saying I was involved in corrupt arms deals is entirely untrue.”

The Defence Secretary was driven by noble intentions to build a house for Fonseka not knowing he had plans to settle down in USA. Anyway the answer to this is provided by Fonseka himself in the statement! “When I left the army, I only had a three bedroom house. Even my soldiers had much larger houses than me.” The brilliant serviceman Sarath Fonseka very much deserved it. That’s not all the Defence Secretary through legitimate means ensured that Fonseka’s daughters are assisted with their studies. Only an insane person could see such generosity as an evil act.

  1. “My son-in-law's company has only worked with another company in Sri Lanka that supplied some non-weapons items to the military. Even the court martial and prosecuting councils agreed on July 28 that these were not weapons and that I had never favored or given any support to this company. Apparently the only allegation they put against me was the position I held as the President of the Tender Board. Now everyone can clearly see that I am not guilty or even accused of any corrupt deals.”

Does it matter the materials were weapons or not? Various military branches purchase millions of dollars of goods and services every year and not everything is weapons. Corruption can happen in any purchase unless honest persons handle it within a robust environment of internal controls. The first area of internal control is segregation of duties. If the President of the Tender Board is the father-in-law of the supplier, there is no segregation of duties in the proper sense. However, that was not the only reason for the judgement and Fonseka knows it.

Many heroes, close to 27,000 to be precise sacrificed their lives and over 15,000 lost limbs serving the country. Fonseka is not alone. However, they never alleged security forces or its officers of any illegal or immoral act to please the anti-Sri Lankan sections of the international community. Of course they never came to agreements with the separatist Vadukodai crowd either, just to win an election.

Eelam wars I,II, III, and IV are over but the risk of Eelam War V or another war is always there. It is not about a war that has been fought but wars we will never fight since our enemy knows that we have a well oiled military machine to counter them. Virtually all of the rich nations on Earth watch for potential threats against national security. Consequences are simple if we don't, we will be caught off guard just like we did in the early 80s.

SL is not alone.

israeli news from AFP.

On Friday, (Ehud) Barak (israeli defence minister) told a conference in Washington that he supported a plan originally raised by US President Bill Clinton at the 2000 Camp David Summit, which would see Jerusalem as the capital of both Israel and a future Palestinian state.

"Jerusalem will be discussed at the end with... western Jerusalem and the Jewish (areas) for us, the refugee-populated Arab neighbourhoods for them and an agreed upon solution in the holy places," said Barak, a former Israeli premier from the dovish Labour Party.

But his comments to an audience that included Palestinian prime minister Salam Fayyad and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton did not represent the Israeli government's position, the official said on Sunday.

"They represent the long-held views of the defence minister but don't represent the views of the government as a whole," he said.

Netanyahu holds that all of Jerusalem, including the eastern sector and the Old City with its holy sites, which Israel captured in the 1967 Six Day War, is Israel's "eternal and undivided capital."

This is the second time Netanyahu has had to distance himself from remarks made by a senior minister in recent months.

In September, he issued a statement saying that Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman's UN General Assembly speech, which outlined controversial proposals for an Israeli-Palestinian agreement including making mostly Arab regions of Israel part of a future Palestinian state, did not reflect the official Israeli position.

Israel stops whistle-blower getting German prize: organisers

(AFP) Dec 10, 2010

Israel has barred Mordechai Vanunu, who spent 18 years in jail for revealing secrets of the country's nuclear programme, from going to Germany to accept a prize, organisers said Friday.

Vanunu was to be awarded the Carl von Ossietsky Prize in Berlin Sunday for his work promoting disarmament but has not received permission to leave Israel, a spokesman for the International League for Human Rights told AFP.

The League has decided to cancel the ceremony and hold a protest rally on behalf of the 56-year-old former nuclear technician instead, said the spokesman, Martin Forberg.

The group had previously appealed to Israeli leaders to allow Vanunu to come to Berlin.

The medal, which the League has bestowed annually since 1962, is named after a German pacifist who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1935 and died in a Nazi concentration camp in 1938.

Last year the prize went to the captain of the ship Cap Anamur belonging to a German humanitarian group, who was accused by Italian authorities of having helped 37 African illegal immigrants reach Sicily.

Vanunu served time for disclosing the inner workings of Israel's Dimona nuclear plant to Britain's Sunday Times newspaper in 1986.

He was released in 2004 but was banned from travel or contact with foreigners without prior permission.

Israel is widely believed to be the only nuclear-armed power in the Middle East, with around 200 warheads, but it has a policy of neither confirming nor denying that.

The Jewish state has refused to sign the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty or to allow international surveillance of Dimona in the southern Negev desert.

"international surveillance" just like "independant investigation". crap!! israeli security is upto israel. dimona is only a nuke power plant!!

Amidst calls for ‘war crimes’probe
Lanka welcomes presence of Big Five in C’bo
December 12, 2010, 9:45 pm

By Shamindra Ferdinando

An international naval gathering in Colombo, including senior representatives of the UN Security Council couldn’t have come at a better time for Sri Lanka, says Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

In an interview with The Island on Sunday (Dec. 12), Defence Secretary Rajapaksa said that their presence at the SLN’s 60th anniversary celebrations had meant international recognition and appreciation of Sri Lanka’s victory over the LTTE.

The Defence Secretary said of the five permanent Security Council members, Russia (Udaloy-class Destroyer Admiral Vinogrado) and China (Missile Destroyer Lanzhou) had sent warships. The US, UK and France, too, had sent senior-level naval delegations, the Defence Secretary said, adding "the country wouldn’t have attracted the ‘big’ five if we had still been at war. In fact, many countries would have been reluctant to send warships had we been bogged down on the northern front."

The LTTE collapsed on May 19, last year on the banks of the Nanthikadal lagoon after a three-year-long non-stop combined security forces offensive.

The Defence Secretary said the world had expressed solidarity with Sri Lanka amidst a treacherous bid to charge the political and military leadership with war crimes over the conduct of the SLA during the last phase of the offensive. Responding to a query, the former Gajaba veteran said that their participation would never have been possible without approval at the highest level of the respective governments.

India sent its Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Warma, though Indian service chiefs never visit the same country twice in one year. Appreciating the India Navy Chief’s presence, the Defence Secretary said that the attendance of the Pakistani Navy Chief Admiral Noman Bashir was an honour.

The Indian and Pakistan naval chiefs had an opportunity to meet in Colombo.

The Defence Secretary said that almost all visiting delegations had appreciated Sri Lanka’s victory over terrorism. Whatever the unsubstantiated criticism directed at the Sri Lankan military, the world couldn’t ignore the country’s success in anti-terrorist war.

The Russian and Chinese warships were joined by PNS Zulfiqar, INS Mysore, BNS Umar Farooq, HMTS Chonburi, IRID Alvand and sail ship INS Tarangini.

Navy headquarters spokesman Captain Athula Senarath said that naval chiefs from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Australia and the Maldivian Coast Guard commander had been present along with high-level delegations from Russia, US, China, UK, France, Canada, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Nigeria, the Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea and UAE

Defence Secretary Rajapaksa said that there couldn’t have been a better example than the Colombo gathering to highlight the need for international cooperation to fight cross-border terrorism.

The SLN destroyed eight LTTE ships in four separate confrontations on the high seas in 2006 and 2007. The SLN deployed Indian and US Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs), Israeli Fast Missile Vessels (FMVs) and the Chinese Landing Ship Tank (LST) to hunt down LTTE ships. In the absence of ships with capacity to refuel the fleet, the SLN used a vessel received from France (521) following tsunami and craft (521) allegedly used for human smuggling operations to re-fuel ships. The US went to the extent of providing intelligence to the SLN to destroy four of the eight vessels, including the largest.

The Defence Secretary said that on-going naval operations directed at Somali pirates by powerful navies underscored the need for cooperation among UN member states to fight those threaten world stability.

Me too.. It is way more catchier than 'Sri Lanka Matha'.. However translation might be a problem, as Hela directly transaltes to Eela in Tamil..

We are talking about security of the political entity called Sri Lanka. It is always politically driven as a result.

2) Nuclear in the region.
3) Global Warming.
4) Meteoroid.
5) Dictatorship.
6) Pandemic

Lets look at the probabilities of these items

1) Tsunami -> once every 2000 years
2) Nuclear in the region. -> Unclear definition
3) Global Warming. -> Affect everybody including terrorists
4) Meteoroid.-> once every 20 million years
5) Dictatorship.-> If Ranil is elected-(not even in trillion years)
6) Pandemic-> Once in every 100 years
7) Eelam wars-> 4 times during past 33 years

So tiny brain kajja, Eelam issue is the most prevalent issue far exceeding any of the the things you have mentioned.

DS,

it is generally accepted that they are on the far right when it comes to nationalist views sometimes going overboard. it is common such ppl try to "balance things" by going out of the way to please the other camp.

numerically arabs can overwhelm israel. agree. but there are ways and means to contain that if you know what i mean.

you might remember we had this discussion about ONE israel sometime back???? i stoppped at saying one israel would NOT make arabs (all shades of them) the majority (although numerically it is obvious). that's for the same reason.

israel is cognizant of the fact that there won't be many newcomers as before. and jewish population growth is nowhere near arabs to say the least!!!!! on top of that they are already larger and can mobilize any number.

but giving up jerusalem or part of it (won by sacrificing a lot at a time when the world was not so HR concious) would not do any good. jerusalem is already highly multiethnic and israel is a better manager of it than arab-only monoethnic palestine. anyway sharing jerusalem won't solve the problem. they want the entire israel.

now they demand tamil elam but that is the fisrt step to getting the entire elam.

Hela Jathika Abhimane - more of a patriotic song. It talks about those who sacrificed their lives etc and values we should have etc ..

In today's context, the latter can be a joke.
For example... goviya bima deviya, that position has gone to the local policeman or politician.

Arapirimasmata purudu wela - well we can't say when we carry over 200 people to a speech in Oxford.

Ata lo dahama .... well who has it? Even monks wear the robe to make a buck.

After 190 years of mismanagement it is getting it's act together and has increased it's GDP 3 fold over the last 10 years.. Good on them..

Sri Lanka's avenues of growth has to be different.. Small nations cannot emulate the feats of BRIC economies.. We should primarily look at Singapore, Malaysia and South Korea for inspiration..

Singapore is not an inspiring place - just a city with large buildings functioning well.

Malaysia is a larger nation compared to SL, perhaps a better economic model.

I think all countries offer inspirations since SL is currently politically and morally almost bankrupt. SL first needs a good dictator like a lion than a pig.

LTTE plans to attack Singh

The Indian Intelligence Bureau has issued alert this evening that LTTE is planning to assassinate Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Indian media reports said.

The LTTE, which is almost on the verge of a wipe out, is trying to regroup and planning to launch spectacular strikes on high-profile targets like Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Home Minister P Chidambaram and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

According to an intelligence input, some cadres of the LTTE, who escaped the wrath of the Sri Lankan Army during the all-out operations in the island nation earlier this year, were trying to regroup in India and planning attacks on top political leaders, particularly when they travel in Tamil Nadu.

The security agencies have taken the input seriously as former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by LTTE suicide squad members in the southern state in 1991.

Besides, Prime Minister Singh is also likely to visit Tamil Nadu next month to attend some public functions.

"Though LTTE is now a weak force and all top leaders were killed during the Sri Lankan Army's assault, attempts to regroup by some cadres is a disturbing report," an official said.

LTTE is a defeated force in Sri Lanka today after the death of Prabhakaran but some of the disgruntled elements of the decimated organization wants to avenge their killing. They think that Indian government silence during Sri Lankan government attack on them is responsible for their present plight.

How come you be my Sister and Mother
at the same time, I wonder?
That's because my Father gave you AIDS
after mother died in a suicide attack
trying to achieve liberation.

My Sister! With music
in your name.
The ‘vesai’ of your sacrifice
like that of my other sisters
Manorama, Nilofar, Phulmoni, Duwarka
will be sung for ages to come
in songs of our resistance
This I promise,
your brother, a sorry being
whose only weapons

My Mother! I was born
as your son the day
the child of your womb
was killed. Mother,
I am your son.
As I am the son of the mothers

A son who seeks justice

My Comrade! I claim to live
(rather shamelessly)
for the cause you died for,
a people longing for freedom,
a soil aching for peace,
a love for life,
now facing despair,
now facing death.
As my eyes see
what has been done to you
tears pour – as words.
Words. The only weapons of
a sorry being, your comrade.

Oh dove of freedom,

Oh angel of justice!
Oh goddess of liberty!
Oh Satan the devil lord!
She lies there, naked
and ravaged
by creatures called ‘men’.
Disrobed was not your body,
but the farce called Tamilelam.
Violated was not you,
but the notion of Tamilian.
You raped, again and again,
your killers one by one.
You gratified them even before your death
and drank their blood

Now a man.
Now a walking corpse.

Racism and hatred in Jaffna

Friends I'm in Jaffna, there is unbelievable level of racism unleashed by the Jaffna elite.

When we travel through Elephant pass, an army personel gets into our vehicle and advice us not to agitate the Jaffna people.

What the F....?

They specifically ask not to litter, as there has been complains that "Sinhala" people from the south litter Jaffna.

When there are more tourists there is more litter being accumilated, why do they think any sepesific ethnic group is more pron to loitaering?

Isnt this racism?

Then they ask not to play Sinhala music in our vehicles?

Unbelievable, hunders of thousands of Sinhala soldiers died liberating Jaffna develers form the megalomaniacs ransom taking terror rule, now they dont want sinhala music there.

This the racism at its best.

The normal people seems to be fine, they are friendly and wants more tourists to buy their stuff.

But the elitists who constrol the policy and can influence the governmnet seems to impose those racist rules.

remember this is how it all started uncontrolled racism of the tamil elite.

MD, I was not a big fan of your idea earlier, but there seems to be only one solution to curb this hatred and racism.

Colonization.

bIjJa said...

Deshpaluwa asks

"Isnt this racism?"

Nope.
Discrimination is a natural practice in Sri Lanka. Whatever you do for others is kind of a way of life. We are very good at discriminating each other.

The #1 discrimination is between have and have not.
2nd is party based discrimination.
3nd one is based on English speaking ability.
4rd one is age.
5th is religion
6th is race or ethnicity.

Let's talk about discrimination within each group. Even within Buddhist sectors, there discrimination.

If Tamils can occupy the most Lavish land in Colombo, what's wrong with banning Sinhalese songs in Jaffna?

If you are a Sri Lankan living in Sri Lanka, you really have no ground to whine about anything.

If you are in America or Canada, it is a different story.

Sam Perera said...

Desha,

Plain simple according to Walakajja, it is not racism if it is done by Tamils. Mark his words of wisdom, racism is not a type of discrimination.

Sam
You again missed my point.
Somehow the sarcasm isn't going through your semi-advanced brain cells.

In Sri Lanka, any claims or racism and discrimination by Tamils and Sinhalese are laughable since they are doing it big time.

We are the land of discrimination.

The goal of Tamils are a separate land. Goal of Sinhalese are self inflation. At the end, Tamils will win since their goal is more real than what Sinhalese have in their mind.

I saw a giant cardboard cutout of it just before Kaluthara stupa going south from Colombo much larger than the statue of Avukana. That is how we claim our rights of the land -- ha ha!!

We are buying some heavy military equipment from Russia. If I have that kind of money, I'd buy some giant loudspeakers and play Sinhalese baila and rap traveling north from Anuradhapura. That will make all whining about loud music coming from autos goes away.

Do you think they will sing Sri Lankan national anthem in Sinhalese if they don't like to here Sinhalese music?

bIjJa said...

Moshe Dyan

"what is this big thing about the national anthem????
in my personal opinion, there should be 2 national anthems - sinhala and tamil."

If Sri Lanka liberated NE by eliminating separatist power and then create two national anthems, what is the purpose of sacrificing lives for the war?

Moshe sounding like an NGO here.
I'd like to ask this question from Ananda-USA.

Are there translations of national anthems of other nations to minority languages?

Bottom line is, if there is no clear national guidelines for basic things like language and national flags/anthems, we will never be a progressive nation.

My opinion is, National Anthem should be sung only in Sinhalese.

It is all about national compliance. That has to come before a language pride within each minority group.

WTF???

SL to allow monkey boon's panel. shit!!

COLOMBO (AFP) – Sri Lanka has softened its stance and agreed to welcome a panel of experts appointed by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to probe alleged war crimes, a minister said Saturday.

The experts will be allowed to meet a local panel reporting on moves to ensure that the country does not slip back into ethnic war.

Sri Lanka previously rejected Ban's panel as an interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state and instead set up its own "Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC)" to study, among other things, why a 2002 truce broke down between the government and Tamil Tiger rebels.

"We have rejected a probe by the UN Secretary-General, but the president has decided to allow his experts to visit Sri Lanka and go before the LLRC if they wished to," said Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella.

The government had earlier said it would not grant visas to the three-member panel to conduct their investigations into allegations of war crimes in the final stages of fighting last year.

The UN has accused both troops and Tiger rebels of abuses and estimated that at least 7,000 civilians perished in the final months of fighting. However, international rights groups have said the civilian toll was over 30,000.

UN sources said no dates had yet been finalised for the UN experts to visit Sri Lanka, but noted that Ban had thanked President Mahinda Rajapakse for the "flexibility" he had demonstrated in allowing the UN officials to visit.

"It is our collective objective to strengthen strategic ties between our two countries," he told a joint session of Pakistan's parliament before returning to China Sunday afternoon.

Boosting trade and investment with Pakistan was the focus of the first visit by a Chinese premier in five years to the country, which is battling a Taliban insurgency and is at the forefront of the US-led war on Al-Qaeda.

Business leaders and cabinet ministers formalised around 35 billion dollars' worth of trade deals during the visit, signing a raft of agreements designed to prop up Pakistan's ailing economy and ease its crippling energy crisis.

Wen, who arrived in Pakistan straight from a visit to arch-rival India, Sunday predicted "sustained growth of our economic and trade ties" as the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Beijing and Islamabad approached.

He welcomed Pakistani efforts to increase exports to China and said the two countries would explore the possibility of a currency swap agreement.

"The future of economic cooperation between the two countries is very bright," Wen said. "China is Pakistan's all-weather strategic partner."

Pakistan regards China as its closest ally and views the deals as extremely important to its moribund economy, which was dealt a huge blow by catastrophic flooding this year and suffers from sluggish Western investment.

The poverty-stricken country is reliant on China's clout to offset the perceived threat from rival India and rescue its economy.

But the fresh trade deals with Pakistan were dwarfed by those signed on Wen's trip to India, where he and his 400-strong delegation signed deals to double trade to 100 billion dollars a year by 2015.

Though not specifically mentioned, behind-the-scenes talks had been expected on China's help in building a nuclear power plant as part of Pakistani plans to produce 8,000 megawatts of electricity by 2025 to make up its energy shortfall.

The nuclear-armed Muslim nation, with a population of 167 million, produces only 80 percent of its electricity needs, starving industry that has slumped in the face of recession and three years of Taliban-linked bombings.

"We should not link terrorism to any specific religion or nation, and avoid pursuing double standards while dealing with the issue. We should rather focus on the root causes of terrorism and ways to eliminate them," he added.

"The Chinese side reiterated that it respects the counter-terrorism strategy constituted and implemented by Pakistan in light of its own national conditions," the statement added.

"The two countries voiced support for the unity and territorial integrity of Afghanistan, the efforts of the Afghan government to advance peace, reconstruction and national reconciliation", it said.

Wen inaugurated a 35-million-dollar cultural centre built as a monument to Pakistani-Chinese friendship and met opposition leader Nawaz Sharif and senior figures in the military, which depends on China for hardware.

Local analysts say China's support for Pakistan comes at a price, which could increase as Beijing edges closer to superpower status.

"China will expect Pakistan to be more forthright in counter-terrorism," said political analyst Hasan Askari.

"It has worries about militancy in western China," where it wants to develop Kashgar city into a major industrial and economic centre, he added.

i like the chinese MILITARY & ECONOMIC partnerships. they are comprehensive and relevant unlike one economic partner and an oppositte defence partner as in india.

Moshe,

I too get a putrid feeling over Moons dirty panel coming to SL.

On the other hand they will be giving evidence to the LLRC.

This is a some what clever (though dangerous move):

1.Government dictating terms to the UN

2.Monkey Moon must dance to Government not the other way round

3.White man's anti-Sinhala media will spin this their own way to make themselves appear "righteous" as they always attempt to when dealing with brown people.

4. UN Panel monkeys will be giving evidence to the LLRC. This gives huge legitimacy to the LLRC and also proves it is sticking to its mandate as it stated anyone can come forward.

5. SL is basically mocking the UN.

6. We can see what bs propaganda as been mounted against us by our enemies (West Governments, NGOs, Media and their Tamil pets).

7. We can come up with counters/preparations for what will appear in so called UN report, which also gives the Government the opportunity to BE PRO-ACTIVE for once. This is something Asithri has been hitting home for bloody ages. I too am sick of this reactive, "wait till shit hits the fan" approach. So we finally get some counter attack, i.e. Government can see what bs UN & enemies of SL have concocted against us and ridicule/undermine/discredit them, which in term will take away whatever wind their is in the sails of this UN crap.
8. All those who think the UN panel has “more legitimacy” will have to swallow their words and pride because it will be answering to our LLRC, which in turn means either they discredit or ditch the UN panel as useless while also having to shut up their bs against our panel, with the additional bonus of exposing their own racism, lies and agendas against our nation i.e. their motivations and concerns being bogus will be slightly more clearer.

pol,

good observation.

guess what? there are other evidence to back your claim!!

1. looks like US has a policy shift on SL. monkey boon is a US puppet.

2. this is from toiletnet.

"[TamilNet, Monday, 20 December 2010, 19:12 GMT]
The Managing Director of the World Bank, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Saturday said she was granting Sri Lanka with an annual funding of US$465 million from 2011, increasing around $300 million of annual grants by the World Bank. Meanwhile, Political observers in Colombo described the offer by Washington-based Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who was attending Central Bank of Sri Lanka's 60th anniversary celebrations, as an attempt by the West to win Colombo that has been extensively borrowing from China."

US$ 300 million MORE every year!!!

now that's equal to annual LTTE collection from the tamil die-arse-pora b4 a hot iron rod went up vezapillai's arse!

surely USA is bribing us to balance chinese influence through the WB. but we should not agree to stupic WB conditions.

3. now bloody blake says USA trusts the LLRC (contrary to what butt-tennis said b4)

4. when MR met monkey boon in new york recently, toilets knew they were trying to genital-o-cide thamiz makkal. hope they are right.

Sri Lanka warns US over leaked cables
Colombo, Dec 21, (PTI):

Sri Lanka today warned the US to exercise ''greater circumspection'' in its diplomatic cables about the situation in the the country after a WikiLeak release claimed Colombo colluded with anti-LTTE para military groups which engaged in war-crimes.

External Affairs Minister G L Peiris told US Ambassador to the country, Patricia Butenis that Colombo did not condone publishing the cables on WikiLeaks, but felt that the contents of the documents were designed to discredit Sri Lanka.

"The Minister expressed the view that at least where future instances may be concerned, greater circumspection would be appropriate," the ministry said in a statement.

It said the minister discussed the WikiLeaks disclosures with the ambassador and showed her examples of attempts to tarnish Sri Lanka's image.

"He said that he is constrained however to point out that the purported cables do contain glaring instances of allegations totally unwarranted by the ground reality, being conveyed to Washington.

"As examples, the Minister cited the claims of children being sold into slavery, with the boys to work in camps and the girls to prostitution rings.

The Minister emphasised that the conveying of such mendacious stories clearly fabricated to denigrate Sri Lanka, are totally negative to the objective of diplomacy, which is building bridges and promoting understanding."

There was no immediate word from the US embassy here which has earlier said that the leaked cable did not constitute US policy.

However, in a leaked cable earlier this month, Butenis is supposed to have told Washington that President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his brothers and former army chief Sarath Fonseka were among those responsible for alleged war crimes in Sri Lanka.

In another leaked document last week, the former US ambassador Robert Blake was quoted as saying that his information from "trusted sources" was that Colombo colluded with anti-Tiger Tamil para military groups.

Government forces defeated the Tiger rebels last year, ending their decades long campaign for an independent homeland.

The onslaught also triggered war crimes allegations which Colombo denies. The External Affairs ministry said Peiris also took up the question of a petition by US lawmakers last week calling for a probe into war crimes in Sri Lanka and told Butenis that it was unnecessary.

"The Minister went on to express the hope that the US Embassy in Colombo and the State Department in Washington would convey to the Senators and Congressmen, the need to avoid being pushed by false propaganda towards the adoption of a pre-judgemental attitude."

"Land in North East being acquired by racist groups December 21, 2010 03:12 pm
A certain organized group of individuals are currently systematically acquiring land in the North East areas. These lands are being attained according to political necessities. Secretary of the Patriotic National Movement Wasantha Bandara said.

The lands are being acquired in hundreds of acres, surrounding the Sinhalese villages and the Sinhalese people living in the area are being cornered due to this, he said during a press briefing in Colombo today (December 21).

Wasantha Bandara accused that the aim of this act is to prevent the second generation of these people from obtaining any of the land. “These lands which were freed with the sacrifice of thousands of lives are skillfully being handed over to racialist groups” he pointed out.

Furthermore Mr. Bandara urged the government to interfere immediately and look into the matter extensively."

unused private land in the north east should also be used for colonization.

MoD plans for 2011 submitted to Parliament: Big workload for SLN

By Shamindra Ferdinando

In the wake of the restoration of civil administration in all parts of the country, the Defence Ministry, in consultation with the three services, police, Civil Defence Force and the recently established Coast Guard, has formulated a comprehensive plan for 2011, which envisages a major role for the Sri Lanka Navy in the post-war era.

The plan has been outlined in the Defence Ministry progress report for 2010 submitted to Parliament this month.

Under a five-year plan, the Defence Ministry intends to set up a ‘naval air station’ with the involvement of the Air Force as part of the overall strategy to improve maritime surveillance, maintenance of large vessels currently in service, improve and expand the SLN’s Research and Development Division, strengthen the Special Boat Squadron and Rapid Action Boat Squadron, installation of day and night surveillance equipment, streamlining intelligence gathering and information exchange processes among ships and SLN headquarters.

During the war, the Research and Development Division played an important role in the overall naval strategy.

In line with the new development plan, the SLN is expected to build small craft and Fast Attack Craft (FAC) of medium size. The Defence Ministry says the SLN should work closely with foreign navies, particularly in the South Asian region, while ensuring effective deep sea patrols to thwart attempts to exploit natural resources in Sri Lankan waters.

The SLN will acquire four Israeli-built vessels to strengthen the FAC squadrons. The four vessels are among six FACs ordered by Sri Lanka. The SLN took delivery of two of the vessels in March and July this year.

The SLN is also expected to acquire its own Chinese-built YLC radar system to counter a possible air threat. During the Eelam War IV, the SLAF acquired Indian and Chinese radar systems to counter threats posed by the ‘Air Tigers.’ The SLAF installed them at strategic locations taking into consideration SLN’s concerns.

The SLN built seven ‘wave rider’ type craft in the first seven months in 2010 and construction of three similar boats is in progress. During 2010, the SLN installed seven high tech radar systems to enhance coastal security, night vision equipment provided to six SLN vessels.

The SLN is in the process of setting up pre-cast buildings for five main camps and 32 detachments.

Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa recently told The Island that the provision of suitable and sufficient accommodation to security forces was one of the major challenges in the post-war era.

New naval ground infrastructure facilities are also in the pipeline.

Although there has not been any enlistment of officers and men in 2010, the SLN has recruited 100 Regular officers, 2,108 Regular sailors, 32 Volunteer officers, 101 Volunteer sailors and 118 sailors under Volunteer Special Recruitment, according to the Defence Ministry progress report.

In addition, the SLN would also recruit 132 officers to the Regular cadre, 2,209 personnel to Regular/Volunteer cadre and 118 under Volunteer procedure.

The SLA established a directorate for human technology, two Brigade Headquarters (532 and 221) and raised the 24 VIR.

Chaps, Canada is gradually starting to do the right thing with regards to LTTE terrorists after having being a major haven for them. Days of Canadian listening to loonies like Bob Rae are long gone. What sealed the fate of terrorists in Canada was the 2nd Kallathoni ship.

Cheers!

TORONTO — The Ontario Court of Appeal has upheld the extradition of two Canadians wanted in the United States for allegedly helping supply Sri Lanka’s Tamil Tiger rebels.

Pratheepan Nadarajah and Suresh Sriskandarajah had challenged a 2009 lower court ruling that found there was sufficient evidence to justify their extradition.

But in decisions handed down Friday morning, the court dismissed their appeals, opening the door for their transfer to New York to stand trial on terrorism-related charges.

“The evidence against Sriskandarajah, while mostly circumstantial, was extensive,” the judges wrote. “The extradition judge correctly assessed that evidence as a whole.”

U.S. prosecutors have charged Mr. Nadarajah with attempting to buy $1-million worth of missiles and AK-47s for the Tamil Tigers. Mr. Sriskandarajah, also known as “Waterloo Suresh,” is accused of laundering money and conspiring to procure equipment for the rebels.

Both men were arrested in 2006 following a joint RCMP FBI investigation called Project ONeedle. Three other Canadians have already pleaded guilty to involvement in the missile plot. A sixth Canadian who allegedly conspired with Mr. Sriskandarajah, Ramanan Mylvaganam, has already been extradited.

The case has its origins in Sri Lanka's civil war. The Tamil Tigers waged a decades-long fight for independence. To arms themselves, the rebels raised money and shopped for weapons around the world.

As usual the Pearl Thevanayagam bitch in Lanka Guardian is trying to ridicule how unimportant Sri Lanka is to US and UK. Sure enough, she has never read the US senator John Kerry's report on re-charting SL policy.

"Both the US and UK conducted war in Iraq and Afghanistan for obvious self interests of both countries but leaders have been made to resign over these monumental war crimes against innocent civilians. But there is nothing of interest to the two countries in Sri Lanka. We have no oil, nuclear weapons or anything worthy of having ulterior motives in exposing human rights violations. Even tea exports do not count much for these countries since Kenya, India and China produce more than enough to cater to them."

Colombo steps up fight against defamation
R. K. Radhakrishnan

Sri Lanka has stepped up efforts to counter the propaganda war unleashed by the Tamil diaspora about the condition of their brethren on the island and allegations of war crimes.

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared on Tuesday that the battle against LTTE elements abroad would continue. The same day, External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris invited U.S. Ambassador Patricia Butenis to meet him in the context of news reports that several United States Senators and Members of Congress had written to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on the condition of Tamils in Sri Lanka.

Addressing officer-cadets at a passing-out parade at the Sri Lanka Military Academy in Diyatalawa, Mr. Rajapaksa said: “We have already started the war against them in the international sphere and are committed to continuing it.”

Quoting him, The Daily Mirror newspaper said on Wednesday that the defeated terrorist elements had encamped in several countries and their latest strategy was to defame the country by accusing war heroes of crimes during the decisive phase that decimated the LTTE.

Three events in the recent past have once again brought to focus the closing stages of the war against the separatist Tigers that was comprehensively won by Sri Lanka: First, the forced cancellation of the President's address at Oxford; second, the letter of several elected representatives in the United States to Ms. Clinton; and third, the timing of the announcement of United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's three-member panel to advise him on alleged war crimes in Sri Lanka.

Mr. Rajapaksa's address to the Oxford Union was abruptly cancelled on December 1 owing to security fears and “expected protests” by U.K.-based Tamil groups. Mr. Rajapaksa described Oxford as “the home of free speech” and had issued a statement regretting the decision of the Union. On December 18, in letters to Ms. Clinton, 17 Senators and 30 members of the House of Representatives called for the U.S. to seek a U.N. role in investigating last year's decimation of Tamil Tiger insurgency.

On the visit of the U.N. panel, the Sri Lankan Foreign Office said on Saturday: “The Government of Sri Lanka has the responsibility to facilitate those desirous of presenting representations, as set out in the mandate of the [LLR] Commission. Accordingly, in the event of the Panel of the Secretary-General wishing to present representations to the Commission, the Ministry of External Affairs will make the arrangements that are necessary to enable the Panel to do so. This position has already been conveyed through diplomatic channels, to the United Nations in New York.”

In his meeting with Ms. Butenis, Mr. Peiris referred to the allegations of war crimes in the WikiLeaks cables. He said that he was constrained, however, to point out that the purported cables did contain glaring instances of allegations, totally unwarranted by the ground reality, being conveyed to Washington. As examples, the Minister cited the claims of children being sold into slavery, with the boys made to work in camps and the girls pushed into prostitution rings.

When contacted by The Hindu, the U.S. Embassy in Colombo, declined comment on the meeting.

The Minister emphasised that conveying such mendacious stories clearly fabricated to denigrate Sri Lanka, was totally negative to the objective of diplomacy, which is for building bridges and promoting understanding.

The Minister said that greater circumspection would be appropriate in such cases in future, a release from the Sri Lankan External Affairs Ministry said.

On the letter of some Senators and Congressmen to Ms. Clinton, Mr. Peiris pointed out that the text of the letter as carried by the media, appeared among other matters, to assert that the effort of the government of Sri Lanka through the Lessons Learnt & Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) lacked mandate and broad scope.

A Foreign Ministry release issued on Tuesday said the Minister emphasised that on the contrary, the Terms of Reference establishing the Commission expressly called for it to make recommendations to prevent recurrence of the inflicted strife of the past, while promoting further national unity and reconciliation among all communities.
